From the President – July 2010
Dear Colleagues:
Thank you to the IPMA-HR Greater KC Chapter membership for providing me with the opportunity to serve as your Board President during the upcoming year. Our recent Past President, Amy Brusven, brought her energy, creative spirit and humor to the Board over the last few years, and she made it look effortless. Amy left some very large shoes to fill, yet I hope to be successful in continuing to make positive contributions to the Chapter.
As I take the reins this year, I am fortunate to have the support and talent of many returning Board members (Amy Brusven, Past President; Jan Gall, President-Elect; José Portuguez, Treasurer; Trina Duncan, Program Chair), as well as new Board members (Annette Vaughn, Secretary; Mary Bush and Kristie Lyons, Members-At-Large). In addition to the great Board line-up this year, I am excited to welcome back Karen Reed, in the newly created role of Member-At-Large, IT Focus.
I recently had the opportunity to represent the Greater KC Chapter at the IPMA-HR Central Region Annual Training Conference in Middleton, Wisconsin. Through networking and reconnecting with colleagues from across the region and based on discussions at the Leadership Luncheon and roundtable sessions, it is obvious that the Greater KC Chapter is far and away one of the most active chapters in the region. While many IPMA-HR chapters have struggled with lack of funds and lack of participation, the Greater KC Chapter has thrived. I am proud to be a member of such a dedicated group of individuals.
My involvement with IPMA-HR began in 2000. The Greater KC Chapter has provided me with many benefits over the last decade, most notably numerous professional development opportunities and connections formed with my peers. As we begin our 2010 – 2011 program year, I would like to ask each of you to reflect on what your membership in the IPMA-HR organization has meant to you, what you have gained from your membership and what, if anything, you feel is lacking. Then let your Board of Directors know what direction you would like to see the Chapter go in and how we can best serve you.
I invite you to contact me or any of the Board members with questions, concerns, comments and/or suggestions you may have. The IPMA-HR Greater KC Chapter can only continue to improve with your input.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you throughout the year.
